Collections Law/judgement in another state

Question
Recently, I received a letter from an attorney in HI (former residence) that a judgement had been place against me (& my spouse)for back rent and other fees.  I had had an argument with a property manager for her failing to make agreed upon repairs.  She refused after agreeing to in writing ... this went on for a couple of months and then my husband was transferred out of state, here to TN.
We left without paying the last two months' rent and i sent a letter explaining why I was not paying; (I have all documentation).
Anyhow, the property mngr on behalf of the owners whom live abroad; got a judgement against us.
I contacted an attorney in HI and he called them to settle (50%).
The collection agency representative called my attorney back and said the agency had been told to 'not settle' and that the owners may attempt to collect the full amount using a TN lawyer.

What should I expect now and what should I do?  We are now 50% unemployed...my salary just covers our mortgage and car payment.
I have 50% held in cash for this settlemnt..but it would take me another 6 or more to save the rest.

Answer
D. Marie:

I wouldn't be in too big of a rush to pay this insofar as you already have purchased a home and the judgment hasn't been executed here in Tennessee.  If they do try and domesticate it, I would retain counsel that has experience in consumer protection litigation.

Feel free to contact us at Barnette Law Offices, LLC, if this becomes the case.
