Question
I own a small corporation in TN.  I recently was notified that I was going to have a levy placed on my personal checking account for an outstanding personal debt.  The problem was they also placed a levy on my corporation's checking account which happened to be at the same financial institution.  Can they do this?

Answer

Barnette Law Offices
Bryan:

Typically, no, they cannot under Tennessee law insofar as the corporation is a distinct "person" from yourself.  You probably will need a consumer attorney to address this matter for you and we would be willing to help if you're so inclined.
