Collections Law/Medical bill

Question
Yesterday I received benefit explanations from my health insurance company for charges filed last month from a doctor who saw me during a hospital stay in January 2008. The claim was denied, of course, due to untimely filing. The charges are substantial and would have been paid at a contract rate with little patient responsibility to me had the claim been filed within 365 days. Though as of yet I haven't been billed by the doctor, I am panicking. Will I be responsible for this very high bill?

Answer
Nancy,

If you signed a personal guarantee on the medical intake (many do) you may be responsible for the the bill. If the bill is over $10K you may want to visit with a local attorney to see if it is worth filing a lawsuit to get the health insurance company to pay what they were supposed to.
