Collections Law/Sued by Mullooly, Jeffrey, Rooney & Flynn

I'm being sued by Mullooly, Jeffrey, Rooney and Flynn.
From what I read on the internet about them, I think they are representing a company that buys old credit card accounts.  I never had this account they are claiming that I owe.
I don't understanding why this is happening to me.

This is a nightmare.  Thanks in advance, I live in New York State.

Sorry to hear about your predicament.  Some collection agencies, known pejoratively as "skip tracers," specialize in locating consumers who have changed their addresses.  The term is pejorative because most "skips" are actually people who have been forced to move to a cheaper address because of their financial distress.  These firms, like the one you're dealing with, use credit report agency and other databases to try to locate consumers for creditors and collection agencies.  They may developed their own data as well as rely on the data of other firms.

They will try to match the information they are given-such as Social Security number, name, former address, employer, relatives-to find current home and work addresses and telephone numbers and cell phone and e-mail addresses.

Debt collectors will also use less structured Internet sources such as googling names or checking social networking sites like facebook to get leads.  Locating services may charge a low flat fee and collect it for supplying current information about people with similar Social Security numbers or names.  This frequently results in some debt collection effort aimed at the wrong person which, as in your case, may continue even after the mistake is identified.

Hope this explains your situation.  If you have any other questions or need help to dispose of this court case, please do not hesitate to contact me.
