Question
My boyfriend got a payday loan a couple of years back about two and a half years ago and now they have started calling today and they told him that he now owes two grand and that if he doesn't pay he will be summoned to court. Can they really do that? My boyfriend hung up on him and he called back and told my boyfriend that he is willing to reduce the amount to one thousand seven hundred. My boyfriend is a freaking out a little bit. What can we do?

Answer
Jennifer,

1) Debtors can call you until you die.

2) You can mail them to cease and desist contacting you. You can use this sample letter:

3) To determine if they can sue then you need to consult your states statute of limitations. Here is a list: http://www.henleycreditlaw.com/2009/12/statute-of-limitations-sol-on-debt-by-sta...
