Collections Law/How to hold off a summons

Question
I called a collection agency a few weeks back to pay off one of my smaller accounts and to ask for the amounts of any other accounts I had there. They then tell me that a summons was filed and that I was going to be sued. Now mind you, I have two accounts there that a credit counseling service have been sending small payments to for 10 months. Even though the collection agency didn't accept the proposal the credit counseling service still sent payments to the collection agency every month. This comes at a time where I had truly sat down and gathered all my bills and figured out a payment plan for all my debts to be paid in 4 months and for them to tell me this. They were not interested in the plan I had to pay back the debt only to suggest to get a loan. So my questions are, how do I try to hold this off giving me a chance to try to pay this debt in full. If I get a chance to go to court, will the payments that the counseling service sent show a sign of good faith that I was at least trying to pay off some of my debts I had with the collection agency. When I receive the summons, if given the choice, can i make them prove the debt and during this time continue to send payments that I had set up to send. Or will a letter to the judge or someone explaining what has been done and showing proof of that show a sign of good faith. I just don't want a judgement to go on my credit file due to trying to buy a home in the next few months which is for the reason for paying off debts.
