Question
I have been contacted by Asset Acceptance for a credit card debit that i filed with the police department over 17yrs ago. A roommate of mine stole my credit card and proceeded to go on a shopping spree. I filed a report with the police department. Now 17 yrs later there is a balance on the card and this company is trying to get me (force me)to pay it off. The refuse to give me the BofA account number and a contact person. Because this was so long ago i no longer have that information.

Answer

Tennessee Consumer Pro
Laurence:

The debt is out of statute and I can assure you that Asset Acceptance, a debt purchaser, has no documentation as to the original account.  My advice is to write them a letter telling them never to contact you again.

If you're in Tennessee, we at Barnette Law Offices, LLC, would like to get our hands on this one.
