Question
I sent a question on 4/9/10 about a creditor filing a civil lawsuit against me for $2900.00, I still have not been served papers but today in the mail I got a collection letter from the lawyer to call and work a settlement but they also included a copy of the papers filed with the clerk in Houston, TX - the lawyer is out of Dallas, TX.  Is this normal practice?  Are they trying to scare me?

Answer
This is somewhat normal. We are involved in creditor lawsuits all the time with attorneys that are not located in Dallas. They will fly up the day of trial if need be or substitute a local attorney at the last second.

If they filed a lawsuit then it is prudent to answer it even if you are settling with them.

You can call me at 214-552-6647 to discuss further.
