Collections Law/debt collector calls

Question
Dear Mr. Ebert:

I have been receiving as many as 3 calls per day from a company called Portfolio Recovery Associates....Sometimes before 8:00 am.  I have read advertisements from law firms that state that these companies can be sued for harassment under such circumstances. I am somewhat skeptical of these claims, but I am curious to know what options are available to me at this point. In point of fact, I do owe the debt, but cannot afford to pay at this time.  These law firms will obviously require remuneration which I also cannot afford at this point in time. Some of them advertise that if a debt Collector is sued, they (the debt collector) will be responsible for legal fees as well, however I am dubious as to getting involved with a law firm under these circumstances, since I will (likely) have to pay their legal fees if the case does not succeed, or if only the debt is settled and not the legal fees. If you have any advice regarding the general practices of such law firms, or regarding any options I may have, that would be appreciated.

Respectfully yours,

Eric Cormier

Answer
What state are you located in? <-- Original Question that I asked.

Mr. Eric Cormier,

Thank you for the negative feedback. I am not sure what I did to warrant it though other than to ask a question of which state you are located in. My answer is dependent upon what state you are located in. I am not sure how you can assign motives to me before you answered my very reasonable question.

But given the above situation, you must be in a bad place emotionally and need to reflect that upon me. I am sorry for that.
