Question
Dept Educ, said I had a loan from 1978 but it didn't show up until after I consolidated they attached themselves.  I believe someone (family member) used my information to obtain the loan.  Therefore, I didn't know about it, however the $2000 loan is now $16,000 - $25,000 now.

I heard that if you didn't know about the loan it could be reduced to the Original amount. I have tried to get fixed but to no avail

Answer
Dee,

If this is not your debt then have you tried filing a fraud or id affidavit? I would call the creditor and ask if they want you to use their identity theft forms or the one provided by the US at http://www.identitytheft.gov

Caution: Most of these forms will make you sign in front of a notary swearing the facts are true. It could be perjury if you lie on something you sign before the notary.
