Question
I became severely ill in April of 2007.  Numerous procedures, surgeries etc.  I was off work for 6 months and was only able to come back part time due to illness.  We have some credit card debt= not too bad.. we have been working on this due to the high interest and have pd 2 off and are working on the rest.  During this time I was not paying on my medical bills as they were low interest, low priority.  I am actually an employee of one of the medical providers and I received a nasty letter from a law office in North Dakota stating I had 20 days to respond.....blah, blah...Nice for an employer to sue an ill employee.....I have called and they will not set up payment arrangements, but say "whatever you send toward the balance will be taken into account by the attorney"....What should I do with this?   HELP?
Thanks!

Answer
Apparently you don't live in N. Dakota so I really wouldn't worry about it until they turn it over to a lawyer in your home state. In the meantime I'd start learning how to beat them in court and pay them nothing at all. Then how to make them pay you instead. It isn't hard to do. It all starts with the first communication from the lawyer. I'd send the N.Dak lawyer a demand for validation now. That will delay the process a great deal more and if it don't then sue the N.Dak. lawyer in federal court. That's the way to win. It isn't hard to do at all. A bit of learning and you are off and running. That's what I do. I teach people how to win in court without lawyers.

Experience

I've been an active consumer advocate for more than 40 years and have helped hundreds of people win cases against debt collectors as well as helping them defeat demands for summary judgment lodged against them by banks, debt collectors and defeat mortgage foreclosures and keep their homes.

Education/Credentials
Paralegal courses for the most part.
I have been teaching people how to deal with judgments, mortgage foreclosures and other such problems both on and off the internet for many, many years. I am a Richard Cornforth information provider ever since 2000 and worked with many other organizations and causes since 1980. I was Oklahoma State Chairman for the nationwide drive to defeat the Constitutional Convention which was proposed by various factions within our federal government such as the Council of State Governments and the National Organization of State Governors who were working hard to organize a Constitutional Convention to be held in 1995 for the purpose of rewriting our American Constitution to be more acceptable to the United Nations. I worked with Senator Charles Duke of Colorado and Senator Don Rogers of California and many others across the nation to keep them from getting the number of delegate states required to lawfully hold a Con-Con and we were successful. I have worked with many other legislative issues in Oklahoma and have always been very successful.
