Question
I am receiving as well as my family and friends calls from this man name Steve Douglas, who also calls himself James Brown. He goes by the name officer. He stated that I have a loan in the amoun of $3,490 and he will settle for $575, if I use a prepaid card and fax the information over to me with a copy of my driver's license. I know that it is a scam because he will not provide me the documentation of the loan, however he is calling my friend telling her that she is a Guarantor of the loan and that he is taking the case to the Attorney General's office and he will sue her as well. The man will not provide me any information until after I fax him over the information. Of course I am not willing to pay for something that I did not take out. What are my rights legally in regards to this matter?

Answer
Lena,

You are not right to pay him with out him providing documentation of the loan. Many  scammers are just harassing people to get money out of them.

I would fill out a FTC complaint and make a complaint to your states Attorney General. Other than that, you may consider filing suit against him. To stop the harassing calls you may have to call block him and let your friend do the same.
