Question
Afternoon and thank you in advance for your help.  I was fired from a position in 2004 which led to some credit card debt.  I was unemployed, made a few dumb career choices and was unable to pay them for a few years - they ended up selling my debt to colonial credit corp who went to court and got a judgement against me.

They proceeded to garnish my wages with the company I was then employed with.  After about a year I left the company - the garnishment did not follow.  as the years passed, I forgot about the judgement they had against me.

The judgement is listed on my credit report.  The company colonial credit corp merged with Mann-Bracken who went out of business.  I have no idea who now is in posession of this judgement if anyone.

I am looking to find out how to resolve this judgement so it is no longer affecting my credit.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
This might be a tough one. Go to the clerk of the court and ask to see your public record. They will show it to you on a computer screen and then ask to see the file in that case. Find out who the lawyer is and go chase down the lawyer and see who that is. Do not contact that lawyer. just find out if they are out of business to or not. Then get back to me.

Experience

I've been an active consumer advocate for more than 40 years and have helped hundreds of people win cases against debt collectors as well as helping them defeat demands for summary judgment lodged against them by banks, debt collectors and defeat mortgage foreclosures and keep their homes.

Education/Credentials
Paralegal courses for the most part.
I have been teaching people how to deal with judgments, mortgage foreclosures and other such problems both on and off the internet for many, many years. I am a Richard Cornforth information provider ever since 2000 and worked with many other organizations and causes since 1980. I was Oklahoma State Chairman for the nationwide drive to defeat the Constitutional Convention which was proposed by various factions within our federal government such as the Council of State Governments and the National Organization of State Governors who were working hard to organize a Constitutional Convention to be held in 1995 for the purpose of rewriting our American Constitution to be more acceptable to the United Nations. I worked with Senator Charles Duke of Colorado and Senator Don Rogers of California and many others across the nation to keep them from getting the number of delegate states required to lawfully hold a Con-Con and we were successful. I have worked with many other legislative issues in Oklahoma and have always been very successful.
