Collections Law/medical bill for adult child sent to collections in my name

Question
Am I responsible for medical bills that an adult child incurs?  I carried her on my insurance for awhile with the new law that lets me keep her on till she is 26.  She is not a minor.  She has not lived with me in over 2 years.  She lives in another state.  She just sent me a notice from a collection agency for a Dr. visit in April 2011.  The bills went to her address in my name.  I knew nothing about them till they sent me to collections. What is my recourse?

Answer
Pam,

I would call the doctors office that she visited (or have your daughter call). Explain the situation to them that they sent you to collections. The doctors office has the ability to recall from the debt collectors the debt and resend to your daughters.
