Collections Law/Non Payment of Bill from UPS

Question
I live in California right now.

I received exercise eqpt. merchandise from a merchant in Pennsylvania, they paid for the shipping out bound, but when I returned the merchandize back to them via UPS, they refused to pay the return shipping charges. I returned the mechandise within the 30 day trial period.

Now UPS is trying to collect 150 $ from me for the return shipping because the merchant has refused to pay.

If I ignore the UPS invoice and don't pay it, can they spoil my credit?  BTW, they dont have my SS#.

Can the bill collectors obtain my SS# from any other source or agency to come after me to collect their payment? It has been only a month since this happened, so it has not been turned over to bill collectors by UPS.

Please respond.  Thks.

Sam

Answer
Mr. Chan,

If you ignore any bill and do not resolve it with the original creditor they may opt to send it to a collection agency. That collection agency may be able to put the item on your credit report. They can find your social security number easily through skip tracing. They also may not need it to report on your credit report.
