Collections Law/Collection Agency Threatening To Suspend My DL
Hello, A collection agency has threatened to suspend my driver's license if I do not pay them the $5,000 that I owe. It's a debt that I have for about over a year. I haven't gotten into a car accident & I don't owe any car tickets. Is it legal for the collection agency to do this?? Why would they threaten me with this if my DL has nothing to do with a debt that I owe??
I would be happy to pay the collection agency if I could so I can clear my debt, but I can't because I am financially stuck for now.
I am very worried & scared. I need my DL to keep my job.
Thank you very much for your time & help with this matter.
I appreciate it.
Hello Ace: I have been dealing with these people now for more than 30 years since law school and it is getting to where I am never surprised at what kind of a new lie they come up with to scare you into paying. Your instincts are right on this one. They can't take your license because you owe a debt that has nothing to do with driving or child support (some states will suspend a person's license for nonpayment of child support). They are just lying to try to scare you.
The better question is what do you do now to keep them from calling you. If you call me I can show you how to make a letter that will get them off of your back immediately, and it won't cost you a dime. I will not charge you either. I ask that you call me instead of me writing it out because it takes me less time to just to talk on the phone.
You can call me anytime at this number.
