Question
I received a letter from Unifund stating that I owed $22k stemming from an account with Chase. I checked my credit report and found that item along with an item from Chase for $19k, same account number.

I am sending a certified debt validation letter. My questions are:

How long do they have to respond?
Will they remove this item from my report if the cannot validate?
What kind of language should I use in my letter?

Sincere thanks in advance!

Dom

Answer
Dom,

The old days with requesting validation are gone, banks got hip quick to this loophole.  I really doubt you'll get this removed from your credit report since Unifund will have the statements in about 2 weeks from chase.  You'll receive them a few days later.

Send the collection company a letter telling them not to contact you.

Good Luck
