Collections Law/Dental Bills

Question
My husband saw a dentist who performed agressive treatment, maxing out our insurance benefits, while still not fixing the problem. He contacted a mediator who advised him to refund the portion we had to pay another provider to fix the problem, which we received back. There is $48 we still owe to the first dentist for xrays related to the problem. They are now sending us to collections for this. We don't feel we should have to pay this, they are not willing to work with us. What would the effects of this be on our credit should we allow it to go to collections? Our credit scores are both mid-700's.

Answer
Brenda:

Honestly, just pay it.  The negative effects upon your credit are not worth fighting over.  Particularly, when the underlying dispute is a mere $48.00.

Just as with anything else, we all must pick and choose our battles.
