Question
I live in Florida & have an old account with Leasecomm (Microfinancial)
from approx. 1998-2000 for service on a credit card machine ($1,000
remaining). I became ill with the birth of my child and couldn't pay. I
received a notice to appear in court in MA but couldn't attend. I sent
a letter to the court. When I called to check on the proceedings I
offered to pay them what I could. I was told by their attorney that I
needed to pay $250/mo and that my offer was not enough. They cursed me out. I stopped paying
and never heard from them again.
I eventually put myself through college school and just graduated. I
have a small house for worth $50,000 now (paid off). I just received
papers on a deposition I must attend. I had forgotten about Leasecomm to
be perfectly honest. I had received something a few years ago about
the Federal Trade Commission pursuing them for unsavory practices,
harrassment, lying to new business owners, and many of the cases were being
discharged. There was also class action law suit.
I do not know what to do. Do I call and offer them something? Someone
just told me today that they only had 5 years to collect the debt in
Florida. I don't know about that. Is this true?
This is supposed to be removed from my credit report in February and I
assume that is why the push right now. I'm not making a lot of money
but I do have a little bit in my savings account for going back to
school...gifts from my family. Please help!

Let me tell you about this company called LeaseComm. They ended up having to cancel over 24 Million Dollars in Judgments that they had obtained against consumers in 2003.

I really think that if you print out this and then SHOW UP FOR THIS DEPOSITION. This would BE FUN and if the Federal Court read the transcript of this deposition, then LeaseComm will be in Violation of the Cease and Desist.
Also print this letter and send this to the Attorney that is suing you. We will post the transcript to our corporate site at www.collectionindustry.com and if there are enough victims, we will work with Ed at www.Ripoffreport.com to see how many complaints have been filed on this matter!
