Question
My mother recently passed away.
There is an outstanding MCI debt of $234.00
The account is in her name but I was having the bills sent to myself to pay.
So the account is in the name of my mother 'c/o' myself.
MCI tells me that I am responsible for the bill because of the 'c/o' status
Is that true?
Any help would be appreciated

Answer
No it not true. You do not owe the debt. Send them a certified letter advising them to cease all contact with you and inform them if they do not cease calls you will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Inform them your mother is deceased and if they wish to file a claim against the estate that is their prerogative. Do not instruct them how to do this. That is not your responsibility.

If they persist, follow through with the complaint.
