Collections Law/Medical Bill Collections in OK

Question
I recently moved to Oklahoma and learned from a friend that past due medical bills are eligible for a law suit if unpaid.  He was taken to court for past due medical bills he had been unable to pay and while there another individual told us that there is a OK Statute that is quoted to the bill collector in writing, that bill collector would then be unable to sue for the past due balance.  I have been online for the last hour trying to serach for this statute.  Can you tell me if you've heard of this and if so, where I can find it?

Thank you.

Answer
I have researched this and do not find any statutes barring collection of a medical debt. However, some states allow exemptions from attachment certain income and assets. If you owe a debt chances are the creditor can obtain a judgment although depending on your income and assets they may not be able to collect the money.

Before letting it get that far you may want to write the creditor a letter and make a proposal for payment. If you cannot afford it put your budget to paper and show them you cannot afford to pay.
