Collections Law/Relentless Calls from Non-Creditor

Question
Hi!

Thank you for volunteering your time and expertise on All Experts.

I have a question about receiving phone calls at my home from a place called "National Debt Bureau".  The calls come in on my caller ID as "UNKNOWN".

I've received several calls from this place over a period of three months, the latest one today which my husband answered.

The phone rep immediately asks for me and "knows" that I have debt.  What she probably is referring to is our refi we did to pay some debt off last October (the debt was in my name).

We (my husband and I) signed into the do not call list over a year ago...but this place insists and argues over the phone.

My question is there some way to get the address/telephone number of this place and file a complaint with the attorney general's office in their state?  We couldn't get the rep to give us a number to call or state the company is located in.

We don't owe this company anything and don't have outstanding debt except our mortgage at this point, so they aren't a creditor.

Thank you for any insight you can give.

Regards,

Connie Watson

Answer
What do they say when they call? Are they selling anything? DO they ask for anyone in particular?

Try answering the phone and give them enough info they will let their guard down and give you more information. Once you get some basic info you can file your complaint with the state attorney general.
