Collections Law/Being Sued by Credit Card Company

Question
I'm in Texas. I was served with papers to appear in court due to a credit card company (Providian) sueing me for a past debt that occurred in 1999. They are sueing me for $1800. I know that credit limit was less than that.  I think are around $1000.  Should I get a lawyer?

Answer
T:

Yes, you would be of sound reasoning to counsel with an attorney.  Dean Malone and Craig Jordan are both excellent consumer attorneys in the State of Texas.

With that said, I find it highly unlikely that Providian has brought this action inasmuch as it is now defunct and their business model was geared in the fashion of selling paper as soon as it charged off their books.  It would be my guess that this Plaintiff is actually a debt purchaser.

In any event, I would consult an attorney.  It also stands to reason that this alleged debt is also time-barred which should be asserted as an affirmative defense.
