Question
I received a negative report from Unifund. The report states that the account was opened in May 2007. This is not true. They apparently bought my account from Household Bank. How do I fix this?

Answer
Tina:

Unifund is a rather troublesome debt purchaser.  Per their usual and inaccurate reporting methods, they are reporting the date the bought the account as the date in which it was opened.  I would suggest the following:

Contact Unifund in writing and request that they validate the underlying debt.

Contact the credit reporting agencies and request that they re-investigation the subject account tradeline.  Clearly state that they date of status and date opened are inaccurate insofar as they reflect too recent of a date.  In addition, attack the account status inasmuch as they will be reporting the account as past due.  Attack the account type because they will be reporting it as open or an installment.
