Collections Law - Wells Fargo and Mattress Warehouse Incompetent- Robert Paisola Responds

Question Mr. Paisola,
Two years ago, we purchased a mattress at Mattess Giant and put it on store credit from Wells Fargo. We decided we wanted to exchange it for another one and changed it out. We had 1 year no interest/no payment and we were not in a place to pay it so it sat for about 10 months. When we were able to pay it, we waited for the next statement and just wrote a check for the total amount.
We heard nothing from Mattress Giant or Wells Fargo. In April, 2007, a year and half from the purchase, we recieved a bill from Wells Fargo stating we made a purchase on our Mattress Giant account 2 weeks prior. Since we had not, we calld and Wells Fargo said it was strange, and Mattress Giant was getting alot of people calling saying they did not buy anything. They denied Mattress Giant and closed the open ended account.
Now, 6 months later, they are sending us a letter, saying that they neglected to bill us the full amount when we made the exchange and want us to pay up or they are going to take us to court. They never told us we owed more thn we payed off, and we never recieved a bill the whole time after that. Are we really obligated to pay the money? I guess its bad to have such poor practices of keeping track of what you owe, but shame on them for not keeping track of what is due to them. 2 years changes alot of finances.
What is the legals on this? Our account showed 0 balance and was closed.

I know all about this matter, and the people involved at Wells Fargo have been terminated.
The Mattress Giant account was closed and they no longer provide instant credit for customers.
My position is you owe them nothing. If they threaten you, let me know, and I will make a few calls to the boys at Wells Fargo.
