Question
I just received a call saying I owed $1300 on a payday loan from ASAP. I never took out a loan from them although I did take out a payday loan and thought that I had paid it back but not sure. The women asked if I had an attorney than she said she would call ASAP and see if they would give me a settlement. She came back online about 2 minutes later (I thought that was quick for getting ahold of another company and negotiating my debt) She said they would take $599 for an out of court settlement. I told her to mail me something stating what i owed and she said she couldn't do that. She wanted my husbands name and two references. When I told her this had nothing to do with my husband she said she would hold him liable too. I told her I would mail something in if I could get documentation regarding my debt. When I told her I didn't get paid until next week she said the line was breaking up and hung up on me.  I called her back and she said I could express mail her a payment but didn't give me an address. She said she would call me next week. I asked the name of her company and she said States Predisposition Services. I asked if she was out of Florida and she said yes and than changed her mind and said she was in Georgia. What can you tell me about ASAP or States Predisposition Services and what do you recommend I do.
Thanks

Answer
First, send a certified letter demanding verification of the debt under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Dispute that you owe the debt. They have 30 days to provide written verification.

I did some research on States Predisposition Services and ASAP and cannot find any information at all. You need to request something in writing when they call back so you can verify who you are dealing with.
