Collections Law/court summons for credit card debt

Question
I received a court summons today for a credit card debt that I could not pay off due to job loss, and high interest. It has been over 6 years since the debt was sent to collections from the original debtor. However, I did make payment arrangements with the collection agency almost 3 years ago, but could not keep up the payments. The lawyer for the debtor is asking for over $7,500 plus court, and laywer fees. I have 21 days to respond, what are my options. I can afford to make payments no larger than $200.00 per month, but can not afford an attorney at this time. Please help!

Answer
Hello:

I am licensed to practice law in Michigan. If this is a Michigan matter I think I can help you. I would suggest that we talk by phone. Please contact me for a complimentary phone conference. You can contact me by phone or e-mail. Please remember to provide a phone number if I am not available when you call or if you send a response by e-mail.

If this is not a Michigan matter I would encourage you to immediately contact an attorney in your state regarding this matter.

I hope this helps.
