Collections Law/debt after death

Question
My father just recently passed away.  He had several credit cards, a loan, and a vehicle loan that my mother was not a co-signer on any one of them.  One credit card in particular just went to collections and a law firm handling that collection is starting to harass my mother.  Is she responsible for this credit card?  They do not own a house and any other property so there is no estate as they claim in their correspondence to the house.

Answer
It is not likely she is obligated but it depends on your state. If she has no assets and is on a fixed income they cant get much anyway. She needs to send them a cease and desist letter and relax. They cannot get what she doesn't have.

What state are you in? I will check state collection and probate laws to see if they have any claim to her assets.
