Question
Hello, Mr Brotherton

I moved to my present location Sept 29 2006.  I got a new phone number and immedie=ately began receiving calls from a bevy of collectors.  they were trying to reack a Robert Kalinosky (uncert sp), who,I presume had this number previously.  Of those I spoke with, all ceased calling, except Creditors Interchange.  I explained to them, several times, but they continue to call on a daily basis, sometimes 2-3 times.  I generally see the 500-000-00- caller ID and dont answer.  It is obvious that they are to lazy or inept to do a skip-trace.  On various bulletin Boards, I have read that they are also suspected of Phishing.

Nonetheless, I am sick of this daily harrassment for the past15 months.  I contacted the Florida State Attorney General's Ofc and was referred to a site with a complaint form.  The form requests the statute number that is being violated, which seems to be non-existence in this particular situation.
I will further add that I have never used any name or SSN other than my own.
   Their callback number is 1-800-545-2596,x4233.

Any information or assistance you may provide is most welcome.  Thank you,

Frank Newton

Answer
Gather information on the collector and file the complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. They regulate collection agencies. Send a cease and desist letter advising them to cease phone contact. Reference your phone number if you don't know the correct spelling of the debtors name. Send a copy of your complaint with the FTC and send the letter by certified mail, return receipt requested. This should stop the phone calls.

Good luck.
