Question I have lived outside the US for five years and in another year I plan to move back. So of course, I would like to clean up my credit beforehand. I recently pulled a credit report from the three agencies, which to my surprise all have different information. My credit summary from these credit agencies list different debt amounts: Experian lists my total debt as $4886, Equifax lists my debt as $4959 and TransUnion lists my debt as $15,107. The problem I have is that most of my debt is old and I therefore do not any account numbers. I tried to contact one debt collection agency, I C Systems, that has my balance listed as $50 from 2002 which I do not know what it is for. When I tried to contact them for additional information they claimed that they would not be able to retrieve my account information without my SSN, which I did not want to disclose. In addition, I have Asset Acceptance listed on the Equifax report in open account status with a Diner's club account number. Then I have the same debt listed on the Experian reports in closed account status with a different account number which has been charged off since June 2004. Then it is listed with Transunion under Diner's Club in open account status with the same beginning four account numbers that was on the Experian report. My next issue is that I have ATT Wireless listed on the TransUnion report in open account status with an account number beginning with PAL which I assume to be a Palasades account number. This same account number is listed on the Experian report under Palisades Collection which was charged off in November 04. I don't know what to do. Please help!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write to me. On the day that you wrote your question, I was in Hawaii doing a seminar.
Ok, lets look at your issue step by step. You have been gone for 5 years and will be gone for another year. I am assuming that there has been no activity on your accounts for the past 5 years.
If I were you, I would not even worry a bit about these accounts, as many of them are going to fall off of your credit report by the time you arrive in the United States and here is the crazy thing. If you make even one payment on these old accounts, it resets the clock for another seven years. This is why I stress in my book, Credit Secrets, that you never do anything to interfere with the timeline that is going to have the account removed anyway
Regarding the different balances due on each report, that is the way it is in the USA right now. You can go to one of my sites at www.VantageScoreFacts.com and learn all about the new credit scoring system that is soon to be causing more chaos than there already is!
