Hi~

So I just received what looks to be an authentic collections letter from a
company working on behalf of NYNEX.  

Problem is, IF I indeed did have an account with them, it was over 10 years
ago... and I am very attentive to my credit/credit report... and it has never
been on my credit nor have I ever received a letter from them.

Is there a statute of limitations on a collection (if this is indeed real)?

    Unfortunately, no, there is no prescribed statute of limitations as to collection efforts.  The statute of limitations is an affirmative defense which must be raised in a civil action.  There is a seven and ten year reporting statute of limitations pursuant to the FCRA as well.  However, there is not one for generally calling and dunning you.

    I would advise requesting, in writing, that the aforementioned collection agency cease and desist all communication with you inasmuch as it is likely time barred for both the above purposes.
