Question
I am 23-years old (will turn 24 next August) and already have a B.S. in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University in Florida.

I want to go back to school for Computer Science.
However, my degree is not transferable and I will not be going to a Graduate program, but into a Community College to complete an AA degree before transfering to a University.

I have been living in the state of FL since 2005 and have been working independently.
Where does this put me in regard to Financial Aid and to my residency status?

Answer
Hi Amy,

First off residency is only an issue with respect to in-state tuition.  You're well beyond those requirement.  Next, community colleges offer little aid since they are inexepensive.  Lastly you will be required to list your parents' income until you are 25, married, ex military or can prove you are an orphan.  So your eligibility will depend on many factors, your and your parents' income/assets, the school you choose and their cost of attendance.  You can get pretty far down this path with a financial aid office but they won't help you fill out the forms.  We do that but it is a little expensive.  I'm happy to help if you need me to.

I can answer questions about the financial aid process and the formulas used by the Department of Education in determining who qualifies for funding. I can also help people qualify for more funding by making strategic decisions to avoid being penalized for having "countable" assets. I cannot answer questions about scholarships.
