Question
I'm looking to transfer to St.John's University in the Spring and the school is pretty expensive. I still can't afford the school even with the scholarship the school offered me, my pell grant, and loans. So my question to you is, do you know of any scholarships or grants I can apply to that doesn't require much? I know of Fast Web, but that site isn't very helpful. I applied to several scholarships and grants and didn't get a reply back.

Answer
Ebony,

Thanks for the great question... this is one of those that requires a bit more information from you before I can give you adequate advice.  However... the first thing I would look at is the fact that none of us can count on getting any Scholarships.  Scholarships are granted to the student from either the College... or from a private donator.  If St. John's has already offered you a Scholarship... and it's not enough, the only other sources to obtain any scholarships from are from a private donation.  Unfortunately there is no way anyone can be sure they will get the award, or if they do... that the award will last more than just 1 year.  It's a private scholarship... and they can give it to whom ever they want to.

The last thing you want to do is to attend a college that is a financial stretch, and then have something come up next year that prevents you from attending in year 2.  My professional advice... may not be what you want to hear... but maybe you should think about taking a look at another University that is within your current financial reach.  That way... you're not setting yourself up for failure.

It's probably now what you wanted to hear... but I hope this helps you.
