Question
Mr. Thomas,
I am a 24 year old single mother going back to schoolfull time at Henry Ford Community College. I have very poor credit. The only relative I have to cosign is my mother who also has poor credit. I am already recieving Direct Stafford loan, but I need money for a computer and some for living expenses since I won't be able to work as much. Are there any personal student loans that will take bad credit or and other grants i am eligable for.
           Thank you,
              Rebecca

Answer
Rebecca,
You should check with the schools financial aid office to see what lenders they work with for alternative student loans.  Students with bad credit may sill have some loans made available to them.

Besides loans, check into any possible work/study programs available at the school.  Also, you might want to contact your states Higher Education Agency to see what assistance programs (grants) they offer to students.
