College Football/Chances of playing football
Expert: Thom Brooks - 1/30/2008
QuestionDear Thom,
So I played football throughout high school and started at wide receiver since
my jr year. I am currently attending CSU East Bay where there is no football
team. It was the only school I was able to get into so at the moment I am
stuck. My dream has always been to play college football. Since i graduated I
have been training my ass off though. Currently I am 5'11'' 187 lbs. I run a
4.44 forty and have a broadjump of 10'6''. But I am continually working and
will be hiring a speed coach in a couple weeks. I just wanted to see what my
chances are of transfering to a college team and player there and what
division i could play in. I also wanted to see what steps i should take such as
contacting coaches or going to combines in order to accomplish this goal.
Thank You,
Dash
AnswerDash, Hello!
Contact the NCAA.org to get the exact ruling, but you sound as if you have your 4 years of eligibility and would not have to sit out a year to play ball, (unless it was to a Div-1 school after you've played at a lower level division).
You can make a telephone call to the Athletic Department of the school that you prefer playing for. They will tell you when the Coaches or Scouts would be able to speak with you.
I do not know about your skills at WR, but if you are taking it seriously enough to have a Speed Coach, you sound mature enough to want to work hard to attain that goal of playing.
Keep running those sprints. Get someone to throw 100 balls per day at your hands. You'll need to show the Coaches that you have speed, durability, good hands, and above all, that you are mentally tough.
You're going to be awesome!
