Question
I have been trying to figure out the rules about athletic eligibility years. And i have found that this information is very hard to come by. I am a freshmen college student at a local community college, and i would like to walk on the football team. The only this i dont understand is how many years do i have to play? and when do those years begin to count down?

Answer
The simple answer is it depends on the level you will be competing at (NCAA Div. 1 BSC, FCS; II; III).  Generally the clock starts running when you start college and generally you have 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility.  HOWEVER, there are many exceptions that are take on a case by case basis and on a level of competition basis.Finishing by age 25 is a standard but there are exceptions to that as well.  You NEED to talk to a compliance officer at the school where you want to walk on.  The Compliance officer will have the forms to fill out and file that will start the eligibility clock for you and give you the exact time frame of your eligibility.
