Question
Hi, i am an 18 year old 6'4'' 315 lbs athlete, and i bench 360lbs squat 500lbs. I played football for only one year of high school, my senior year, and I played basketball for three. Thinking about my size and weight, i automatically assume i would be O-line as a college player. But i was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to cut down my weight to 260-270 and be a heavier tight end? I have a quick feet and good hands, because i played basketball for several years. what do you think?

Answer
Eissa, hello and Happy New Year!

You should try out for your most skilled position.  As you are talking with the Coaches, you can discuss the possibility of moving to TE.  Your competition would be great and if you are inexperienced at TE, you would be way down on the depth chart.  If you lose a lot of weight, it could be harmful to your health, could reduce your skills, and could cause you to lose your first tryout position.

You should discuss your thoughts with the Coaches immediately. They will help you make a decision, but then they can help you stay on the weightlifting, running, and dietary schedules.  They would be good advisors!
