College Football/D1 Football Eligibility

Question
Hi,

I played football in high school for 4 years and I loved it. My senior year I was all state honorable mention and I was invited to go play in a post-season all star game. I was good enough to maybe walk on at a D1 school or take a scholarship at a JUCO.

I decided not to play football in college and it is a decision I have always regretted. I graduated with a bachelors from a D1 school and now I am considering going back to school for a different career path and to possibly play football.

I have been researching the topic and I read somewhere that as soon as you enroll full time at a D1 school it starts a 5 year countdown of your eligibility to play at a D1 school regardless of whether or not you are currently playing or not.

Is this true?

Answer
Bobby, hello!

It is generally true, depending on if you had any approved exclusions, like medical red shirt.....

I have attached the NCAA rules but you need to contact your college.  Their Athletic Department will get the official NCAA ruling.

Take care!
