Question
What are the rules or guide lines for the time keeper to go buy or watch for?? This is for amateur football and many times the parents are tasked to keep the time or clock machine and don't have a clue.

Answer
Ned, hello!

The White Hat (the Referee) will give you instruction if you follow his signs to start and stop the clock.  I have attached some websites but you can go to your state's High School football Association or call the local High School Football Officials Association.  They have books to give the instruction.  You can also go to your city or county recreational departments.  They have many people with experience that will be happy to give you the pointers!

Take care,

Thom Brooks
