Question
Hello, my name is Ayern. I've played football in 8th grade and was unable to play in high school because of insurance issues. I played as a defensive end and tight end while in 8th grade. I am 6'0 ft and weigh 185. I've now completed high school and am planning on attending Arizona State University. I love football and know how to play the game. My goal is to get up to 225 lb. before next season. I have good hands and relentless on defense. I'm unsure of what position to play. How could i impress the coaches at ASU, so i can play? I just want to play football.
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Ayem, hello!

You are up against a huge roadblock because you would be competing against blue chips that have played at least 4 years longer.  ASU is a top class school and they would only give you a chance at a tryout if you can do something to impress the coaches.  If you gain 40 pounds quickly it could cause you to lose speed, agility or even strength, so be careful.

Get with the coaches and they will give you their opinion of where you could best help the team!

Take care,

Thom Brooks
