College Football/uniform colors

QuestionA bunch of guys at my work who are UGA fans were at lunch discussing jersey colors and the question came up as to how is it decided what team wears the dark or light uniforms/jerseys. I know traditionally in football the home team wears dark but LSU always wears white at home. So is there an actual rule on what each team wears? And do these same rules apply to league championship games and bowl games. Thanks.
AnswerSteve, hello!
The Home team normally wears the dark jersey but the other team can be informed if the Home team wants to wear white. The NCAA and High School Associations have rules on how the jersey can look but in playoffs they may cater and conform to the media. The Home team get to make the decision and the visitors have to comply. For many years, the Dallas Cowboys wore white jerseys on the road and at home.
I remember a high school game once where the Hartsville Red Foxes played the Marion Swamp Foxes. For some reasonable breakdown.......
Hartsville showed up wearing white jerseys and black pants. Marion had black shirts and white pants. You literally could not tell which team you were on....... When the Bulldogs wore black and played Hawaii it would have been a mess with black and dark green running around the field. So, the Home team gets to make the decision as long as the visitors have an alternate uniform to wear.
I hope the Georgia Bulldogs can win all of their remaining games this year and the first game in January, 2009. I imagine the Gators will wear their blue jerseys this week and oppose the Dawgs wearing white. If the Gators wear white, the Dawgs will wear red. Maybe the Dawgs will break out their silver britches or red pants! I hope the Gators wear solid blue so it will not show their vomit stains and soiled pants after the Dawgs get through with their bad self.
How 'Bout Dem Dawgs !!
