Question
During a onside kick the receiving team bats the ball out of bounds. What should the result be.

Answer
Tom, hello!

Without seeing the entire play, it sounds as though the correct call would be that the Receiving team would take possession at the point where the ball was batted out, with no penalty to either.  The rules come into play if K First Touched the ball in the air before it hit the ground, or if K First Touched the ball before it went 10 yards (in which case it would be R's option to take the ball at the spot where K First Touched).  Was the ball batted forward?  Was there a change of possession on the same play?  A number of things could occur.  I have attached the NCAA rules for your review.  Let me know the exact play and we can talk again!

Take care!
