College Football/Walking on a college football team
Expert: Thom Brooks - 12/2/2008
QuestionI played football through middle school and my junior year of high school. I
played basketball and baseball as well in high school and got signed to play
baseball at an NAIA school but decided not to play. I have two questions. 1) I
didn't play my freshmen year of college at all, so do I still have all four years
of eligibilty? 2) What chances do you think I have of making the roster of a
small D-2 football team as a walk on?....I'm 6'1'', 225lbs, I don't know my
forty but I've always been told I was pretty fast especially for how big I am. I'd
like to play TE or LB....just your thoughts....
AnswerNick, hello!
It sounds that you have 4 years of eligibility remaining but the websites I've attached can get you started towards the official answer from the NCAA.
Only you and your coaches will know if you can qualify to make any team but if you have ability, football intelligence and a strong motivated attitude, then you will make a team. Contact the school of your choice and they will give you the exact dates needed to attend tryouts.
Take care,
Thom Brooks
