College Football/D3-D1

Question
Thom, I have just completed my first year of college football at a competitive D3 school and was wondering what I would have to do to make the jump to D1. I am 19, 6'2 225, run a 4.6 40 and play outside linebacker. Playing time was restricted as a freshmen but I still played enough to letter, not enough for a legitimate highlight film though. Any insight on this topic would be helpful and greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Answer
Matt, hello!

Even if you never play another down, you have played College Football and that is something you will be proud of 80 years from now!  Only a few can make that claim.

Yes, you can jump to Div-1 without having to sit out a year.  Your Div-3 time will count on your eligibility.  If you are not happy at Div-1, you can certainly go back to the Div-2 or Div-3 teams to finish out your eligibility, but with your age, size and speed, somebody would love to have you suit up for them.  If your grades stay up, you will have a tremendous college career.

The college of your choice will advise what they need to discuss their dates and schedules.  Get in touch with them this week!

Take care,

Thom Brooks
