College Football/Fullback
Expert: Thom Brooks - 2/26/2008
QuestionI have a question regarding college football and scholarships.
My son has played football since middle school and has been on Varsity team in high school for two years. He didn't play a lot in his junior because of injury(hip) and other issues with the coach. He did play every game his senior year but has not receive any offers to play JUCO football. My some did make All district First team Fullback.
We have been traveling to different JUCO for tryouts but no one has offer a scholarship or chance to walk-on. So he has decided to play football for D3 school in Brownwood,Texas. Graduation is May 2008
Here are his stats the position is Fullback.
Varsity Team 2006
All District 16-5A
Vertical Jump = 31 inch 40 yard dash = 4.69
Bench Press=325
Squat=405
Height 5'9 218 lbs
Grades 2.6 SAT 750
Can you please tell me what his stats should look like to attract D-1 or JUCO scholarships? Do you know of schools that perhaps we could contact in Texas area for maybe chance to get a scholarship. Any help would be greatly appreciated
AnswerKeitha, hello!
It is awesome to know that you're trying to help your son's future.
You need to contact the Texas High School Football Association and the Texas Football Officials Association. They will have plenty of information on schools, dates, schedules, contacts, and the stats for your comparison. His times and weights look good. When he gets on the team, he will find out in a hurry if he is suffering from the hip injury rehab. That may very well be a prime reason the coaches are reluctant.
You can check with the schools and the NCAA in regards to the minimum grades he must maintain to be able to play.
Take care and have a great day!
