College Football/Is my career over?
Expert: Thom Brooks - 2/15/2008
QuestionThom I just turned 24 in January. And I have been out of high school for 5 years. I have always had a passion to play college football. I'm 6'2 1/2 315 pounds in high school I dominated game, and I have all the strength that equals my size. I squat 700, bench 380, Can leg press over 1200 pounds. with speed of 4.8 I'm a freak of football who has been playing defensive tackle for semi pro since I left high school. Before I graduated high school the university of Tennessee was very interested in me. I had a gpa of 2.4 and ACT score of 16 in which I didn't get admitted. What is your advice for me as far as picking a college or university to go? And what about my age I'm to old to play in college? Thanks for your time
AnswerShawn, hello!
Heck no, your career is not over !!! I'd be proud to see a man like you join a college team. Your size and skills are needed on the field. You need to contact the schools of choice and be certain you do everything to keep your grades at the NCAA minimum to play.
Florida State's Quarterback was your age and playing for the Seminoles........can't remember his darn name........ but he had the Leadership and wisdom to help the younger players. If you've lost any skill, you certainly will have doubled or tripled your Leadership to help the team. So, get it out of your head. You are perfect for some college. Now, you need to find the one that fits your educational needs and chemistry on the field.
I love Georgia Southern Football, (Statesboro, Georgia) but if you're in the Tennessee area, you can look at all the state schools, even Division III. If you're good enough to play college, you may decide to push on for the NFL. If your stats hold up, it wouldn't matter which college you played for.
Some college out there needs to know about you, so get yourself an audience. Get your former coaches and players to help get you introduced. If you know the school you want to attend, contact their Athletic Department, that city's television and radio celebrities that handled Sports, and the local newspapers.
Do you have any film (even on YouTube) that coaches and scouts can review? I'm not sure of the NCAA rules on you playing college ball if you've been paid as a Semi-Pro player, so the college would have to get a ruling on that.
Keep me posted on your progress!
