Question
Hey, My names Edgar and I'm turning 17 (junior going onto a senior) this September  and I have been having attendance problems in school for the last quarter of my junior year and the school dropped me out (dropped me out the last week of school)  of their school. And now I'm planning to take Independent study but still don't know if I'm going to get accepted (on the waiting list). Well if I don't get accepted I'm going to end up going to a continuation school and get my GED. Well do you think I'll be able to get into a JC to play football with a GED? Really hope you can help it will a lot to me, thanks.

Answer
Edgar, hello!

Yes, you can play football.  You need to contact your high school counselor or the Junior College where you intend on enrolling.  They will tell you the Core Courses that you must complete in order to get your GED and the entry level requirements for the studies you seek.  If you maintain your grades, the NCAA will allow you the opportunity to play Sports.

Concentrate on the courses required first.  Then, contact the Athletic Department of your high school and the college you've chosen.  They will give you the advice of requirements and scheduled tryout dates this Fall.  They will also evaluate your skills to know if they want you as a player.

Work hard and do not give up easily.

Take care,

Thom Brooks
