Question
Hi my name is Cullen. I am a 5'8" 175lb RB with only 5% body fat. I run the forty about 4.4 on average and have a 38 inch vertical. I was offered a couple scholarships right out of high school but those small colleges didn't offer my chosen degree. so I took a year off and saved money. now I am entering my sophomore year in a small community college, they don't have football, and am maintaining a 3.7 GPA. I am going to transfer to Oregon State in the summer of 2009 and would like to try and walk on. How would I go about doing this, do I need to tryout in the spring before or even sooner? If they don't have open tryouts, how can I get an opportunity to make the team?

Answer
Culleln, hello!  You need to gather your stats, all film, the letters of scholarship offer and contact the secretary at the Athletic Department.  They will tell you the tryout dates and when the NCAA rules allow the coaches or scouts to talk with you.

If you have the durability to go along with your skills and speed, you will be successful.  I wish you the very best!
