Question
Hello,

I am wondering how feasible it would be for me to join and get some playing time at the Division 3 university I am attending.  I have just finished my first year at the school.

I have no experience playing organized football.  I am 6'4 and about 220 lbs right now and I have been lifting weights and doing cardiovascular activity consistently for about two years.  This has been purely for personal fitness and not necessarily geared towards football.

If it is feasible, what should I do to get the ball moving (literally and figuratively).

Thanks!

Answer
Anthony, hello!  No one can answer that question until you try out for the team.  You have the obvious disadvantage in trying to compete against men that have experience, skills and confidence.  If you're good, the team will find a place for you.

You need to contact the athletic department.  Their secretary will speak with you until it is legal for the coaches to meet with you.  They can give you the miminum grade requirements that the NCAA has, plus their tryout dates and schedules.  You should get some of the players to talk with you, and start working out with them when possible.  If you have the ability, one of them will get in the coach's ear and you will be on right trail.  Pursue it.  Do not leave it until you're satisfied.  You don't get too many chances.  This would be one you would always look back on with happy or bittersweet
memories.  What you do right now will determine that dream.

Take care,
