College Football/my senoirs path
Expert: Thom Brooks - 8/7/2008
QuestionI am a mother of a 17-yr-old high school Varsity Football player. Due to some past mistakes, my son is either going to have to not play this year in order to graduate ontime or change paths or graduate a year later. I need help concerning my son's pathway in getting his diploma, receiving a college education, and accomplishing a goal of succeeding in the arena of football. I would like to gather information that will aid my son in some upcoming decisions he will have to make. I am from North Carolina. Should he train this last year of high school? I need to look at juco admission criteria. He thinks he should play semi ball for a local team. My fear is that he will limit himself. Should he do cumbines in the spring of 09? Are there any football camps in the fall?
AnswerMs. E, hello!
I've been waiting 3 days for a router to be mailed after mine was hit by a storm. Sorry for the delay!
You two need to contact the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. They will advise what your state requires for eligibility in order to play high school ball. If he played Semi Pro for money, it could ban him from playing college ball. If he goes to JUCO he may have to sit out a year before being eligible should he desire to transfer.
He needs to contact the schools of choice. The secretary in the Athletic Department will advise their dates of tryouts and set up an interview with a Scout or Coach when the NCAA rules allow them to speak with him.
The NCAA does have a minimum grade requirements to he has to take his education serious if he wants to play Sports. He should contact any local Coaches, players, or high school football officials. They will keep him steered on the right path.
Take care,
